Turnback calculations

It hasn't featired for some years but there regular used to be a form of stopping headway calculation, of which this is typical:

A station is provided with a centre turn back siding (130 metres long) beyond the island platform (150 metres long). The tip of the main line turnouts are 15 metres from the platform, and the Y point blade tips in the siding are a further 120 metres beyond.

Arrival headway is 150 seconds and the timetable requires every third train to enter the siding, change direction, cross to the other line to wait in the platform. It should then depart at the same time as the next train scheduled to reverse is ready to enter the siding.

The maximum speed is 85 km/h; speed through the turnouts is restricted to 20 km/h.
Braking is 0.85 m/s/s and acceleration is 0.5 in/s/s.
Platform dwell time is 25 seconds.
All trains are 120m long.

If arrival headway is from when one departs until the next arrives, then you have to add dwell i.e. the total time available is 150+25+150+25+150+25 (the last 25 is cancelled out by the train in question at the end of the move).
