Lack of questions being asked...
#1
It is April, the exam is just four or so months away and yet, no-one is asking questions, asking for help, posting their attempts. Yet we get new people applying for membership of this site most days.

If you attend a study day or study group, it will be hammered into you that practice is king. The more you practice, and the longer you practice, the better your attempt will likely be. Getting peer feedback is essential. Doing it at the last minute and expecting those to respond rapidly on here is a big assumption that they will have the free time to do so especially as the number of posts dramatically increases towards the exam.

So, beat the rush, better your chances, start studying, post your answers on here.

I’ve been in the industry 5 years. I’m currently a Verification tester. I intend to sit and pass mod5 at the first attempt well hopefully anyway. I have previous exam experience from a different industry where the last exam I sat and passed had a 70% fail rate so my exam technique is ok and I understand the volume of studying, reading involved and sheer dedication. I won’t be applying for 2018 but possibly 2019 if I think I am competent enough to answer 5 questions of a paper with at least an 80% pass rate. Realistically I’m aiming at 2020. Where can I find the syllabus and reading list for the mod 5
Many thanks

You should look at the exam information on the IRSE website. Details on the syllabus, how to access study packs and other exam resources are all on there.

You will also find the exam papers for the most recent exam. I have not seen the latest on the study pack, but believe that there are lots of questions from past years in there when you have access. The IRSE will not allow us to host all of the past papers but given so they are not available generally. However, candidates from previous exam sessions were allowed copies of the question papers and the "last year" papers on the website as been in place for several years to study group leaders and ex students will have copies.

Many of the question attempts by candidates on this forum include in their answer either the full text of the question or enough to me able to see what the question was about in order to help those reviewing it do so without having to dig out past question papers.

If you have a good look round this forum there are probably past papers back to 2004, but they are not all in one place. Do be aware that the syllabuses have changed.
The most recent year is available to all on the IRSE website and the previous 4 years to those logged in as a member.

Much appreciated I understand what you are getting at. I have a syllabus from 2014 at the moment which gives me a starting point. Today I had an attempt at the 2014 paper. I managed to answer..... ONE...... question in 1 hour 30 mins. I understand though that the speed will come with practice, well hopefully.

Look through the forum and you'll see how it is organised.
For Mod 5 the threads are by topic so have a look to see if there is a thread for the attempted question
