I was wondering what the general thoughts were about asking the IRSE formally if they would do it by email. I've suggested informally before, but yes I feel that it is high time that it was at least an option, especially for those taking the exam abroad- I just don't think it fair that they are held in suspense for longer. Having spoken to him on Wednesday night, I am hoping that Martin Fenner in the joining info for the Exam Review in anuary will invite comments to be made to the examiners anonymously. Now he has finished the exams himself, that means he is best placed (as YM Chairman) to make points that individual students don't feel that they can- particularly if as an unsuccessful candidate where the comment might be taken in the wrong light. Similarly I am sure he'd be prepared to take questions / comments from those out of London who cannot attend the Review in person. Anyone reading this (provided that you yourself are registered here of course) can contact via his email link on this website- about his or any other exam related matter.

They have never not gone in the post before Christmas, but as has been mentioned, whether they get there quickly is an unknown. What are people's thoughts about e-mail notification? Email is fine for me I'm borderline pass for Mod 7 and the wait is killing me

How about using the IRSEonline facility to tell the individual exam results.
Email would be fine as well. I'm waiting impatiently for the results as well. Aditi

I'd like to find out by email too. I'm waiting for the results but being in Australia I don't reckon I'll be finding them out until I get back into the office in the New Year :-(

The only "leaks" which have come my way are-
a) the change to having 3 questions in mod1 hasn't made a significant difference to the results, b) there were a significant number of mod3 Control Table answers which seemed to demonstrate candidates "getting the wrong end of the stick" but curiously in a similar manner to each other, suggesting a common source of misunderstanding somewhere, c) mod5, as is often the case, had significantly better pass rate than other mods- yet still had quite a lot of duff answers. The ohm/km / ohm-km confusion in the TC calc question is believed not to have had an impact on the results. I guess that the pass rate of the various modules therefore hasn't changed a lot from last year, which was pretty dire for mod1 and mod3 so statistically chances of passing these would be 2:1 against. However I regard that those people that are active on this Forum are pretty a-typical and therefore I'd be expecting a significantly higher pass rate amongst this sub-set of the candidate population.

I talked with the IRSE regarding when the results will be posted and they told me that the results have not been posted yet due to the bad weather / staff on leave / staff ill, so expect results near / after new year.

Thanks for the investigation and letting all know, even if it is not what people want to hear. Perhaps it will encourage the use of email in future years

Do you think this year they could break with tradition this year due to the weather conditions and just send out results by email I'm sure it wouldn't take that long. But can you imagine if a mistake was made and the emails were not proof read and you received the wrong result only to get a letter in the New Year to say you had failed.
