2010 Q1 Introduction of novel equipment
#1
I have now had a go at question 1 of the 2010 paper, however, I am not sure if much of my answer to the 2nd part of the question is relevant.

Hort,

Your answer has a great deal of salient points but it seems a little long for 20 minutes.

One tip is to explain terms rather than use them. For example, what does "fail safe" mean? Phrases such as 'meets all the relevant safety requirements' shows an understanding of what is being proven.

Personally, I would avoid statements such as "particularly important for electronic equipment" (EMC bullet). Standards such as the EMC directive are mandatory and are pescriptive as into when they apply.

Section two needs a little looking at. Module 1 is safety, so I would expect to see HAZID, HAZOP, FAT testing, technical review, IDC (inter disciplinary checks deal with interface issues), peer review, assessment of power requirements, gauging, safety case etc. An ISA assesses the [safety] work presented to them (and NoBo does similar for TSIs). The information is prepared and the ISA 'just' reviews that the evidence presented meets all the applicable criterio. It is generally the client or IM who gives product approval and their requirements can often be in excess of the safety work the ISA validates.

Overall, I would suggest it is a good basis for a solid answer but there are errors within. It is probable it would be a pass but a reading of the Yellow Book may aid how to guarantee a pass.
