Indian Practices and Principles
#1
Based on what I gleaned from Dr Verma's lecture and audience contributions in Delhi recently, I have typed up some notes.

I am not sure that I actually got it all 100 percent right, but thought I'd post it here and hope that people who know better can correct as necessary.

Thanks a lot; you have filled up many gaps and corrected a few things that I got slightly wrong.

I have also been sent a Powerpoint presentation that I have the author's permission to post here (but I am not sure that they want to be identified so I won't), which is also a very good contribution.

I have been sent the following, which is certainly worth sharing here

(actually not really sure which is the best place for it- certainly there is content here applicable to module 3 & 5 and probably 1 as well....)

Quote:Hi Peter,

How are you? I am very happy that you are looking for Indian Railway Signaling Principles. Here we have got two main books/manual whatever u say. I am sending the two links which contains the rules, codes and practices of Indian Railway Signaling.

Signal Engineering Manual Vol 1:
http://indianrailways.gov.in/railwayboar..._index.htm

Signal Engineering Manual Vol 2:
http://www.indianrailways.gov.in/railway..._index.htm

Have a look at it and pass comments so that we can have a strong discussions. In Indian Railways we have General and Subsidary Rules also. You feel bit different if you compare this with U.K., Hope these two links will be useful to you.

Please note that Indian Railway Signalling practice regarding overlaps:

Two Aspect Signalling ( Semaphore or Colour Light signalling) territory:-

Block overlap is 400m.
Signal overlap is 180m.

Multiple Aspect Signalling ( Semaphore or Colour Light signalling) territory:-

Block overlap is 180m.
Signal overlap is 120m.

This is for your information.[/u]
